135 Achimota school students infected with Delta variant of (covid-19)

Reports reaching News247gh.com has it that about 135 students, including staff have tested positive for contagious Delta variant of the deadly coronavirus.
In a press briefing, information ministry revealed that about 135 students including staff, have been infected with the virus, Delta Strain which is very deadly.
“We gather that an unconfirmed number of students have tested positive for the Delta variant of coronavirus” the schools PTA chair is also reported to have been infected with the deadly disease.
Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kuma Aboagye told the press that samples were taken from 843 students, 348 of them being boarders and 459 day students and 36 teaching and non teaching staff as of July 3, 2021.
“Some of them are Delta variant cases. 135 of the 550 results released so far tested positive”
According to him about 293 samples of day students are yet to be confirmed.
“We had a significant number of the initial testing we did at Achimota school as Delta variant, so once we have that we assume that because it is the source that was spread around, the majority of the variants there will be the Delta variant. That is why we are doing the strategic testing of the day students so that it doesn’t spill into the community” he revealed
The WHO has warned of the Delta variant and had stressed that countries abide by safety standards and protocols. According to the WHO, the Delta variant spreads more quickly.
But Ghana Health Service says it is taken appropriate measures to make sure it is contained.
