A tragic bus accident in Mississippi early Saturday morning resulted in seven fatalities, including a 6-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister and left dozens injured. The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near Bovina in Warren County when a commercial passenger bus traveling westbound overturned after leaving the roadway. Six victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one died later at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) reported that 37 passengers were transported to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson with various injuries, while the co-driver of the bus was not transported. The accident did not involve any other vehicles and authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. However, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicated that a tire failure might have led to the accident.
The victims were predominantly of Latin American descent, according to Warren County officials and authorities are still working on identifying the remaining victims. This incident highlights the severity of vehicle accidents involving commercial passenger buses and the devastating impact on the victims’ families and communities.
