Senegal has been to the grand finale of Africa Cup of Nations on three occasions and in all these occasions, Aliou Cisse led them.
In 2002, he captained the Senegalese team to reach the finals but were defeated. Aliou Cisse won a silver medal in that tournament back in 2002
In 2019, he led the team again, this time not as captain but as a coach. He helped the Senegalese team to qualify for Afcon2019 finals but lost to Algeria sadly.

Since he took over the Senegal job in 2015, he led Senegal in 17 Afcon games and he lost to only two countries; Algeria and Cameroon.
