Arise Ghana protest turns bloody in Accra (Video)

The protest which commenced around 8am and is supposed to end 4pm turns bloody as Ghana Police fire tear gas into protesters in Ghana’s capital Accra.

The arise Ghana protest is simply a group of Ghanaians, from political parties, to activists, civil groups etc. who are fed-up with the high cost of living in the country.

A court order had approved a two day protest within Ghana’s capital Accra. Day one of the protest became violent after protesters allegedly changed the routes outlined for the protest. Ghana Police earlier secured a court order to determine the routes and time for the Arise Ghana protest.

Ghanaians are demanding reduction in fuel prices which automatically led to an increase in transportation in the country. The situation has generally caused prices of goods and services to skyrocket. A typical Ghanaian delicacy “Kenkey” which was sold at 1ghs to 2ghs is now sold at 3ghs to 4ghs, and places 5ghs to 10ghs at some places.

Ghana Police first published the news on their twitter page saying “what a shame, we were there to protect you and ensure your safety, but you throw stones at us, injure and hurt us. This behaviour is unacceptable and must be condemned”

But according to reports, Ghana Police started shooting tear gas into the crowd before the protesters also began pelting stones at them
