Boris Johnson visits Zelensky, pledges more support and military aid

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson surprised everyone minutes after his arrival in Ukrainian capital Kyiv. His visit was not announced. He has become the latest world leader to visit Ukrainian capital Kyiv since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24th.

Ukrainian Presidency welcomed the prime minister on his arrival.

“We welcome Boris Johnson in Kyiv. The first G7 leader to arrive in Ukraine since the beginning of the large scale war. We are strengthening our union of democracies. Be brave like Boris, be brave like Ukraine” Defence of Ukraine posted on twitter.

“Today I met my friend Zelensky in Kyiv as a show of unwavering support for the people of Ukraine. We’re setting out a new package of financial and military aid which is a testament of our commitment to his country’s struggle against Russia’s barbaric campaign” UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

His visit followed a day after the UK Prime Minister pledged another 100 million pounds in high grade military equipment to Ukrainian people.

It’s now 45 days since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Over 307 health facilities have been damaged. More than 15,000 Ukrainian civilians have been declared missing. Russian soldiers have allegedly gang raped Ukrainian civilians in Mariupol, Irpin, Bucha and other Ukrainian towns. They have allegedly committed several atrocities according to reports.

UK Prime Minister said his government will provide 120 armored vehicles for the Ukrainian people to enable them defend themselves against Russian soldiers. The prime minister described what is happening in Ukraine as barbaric and “crime against humanity”. He said Putin has polluted his reputation as president of the Russian Federation.
