A burial ceremony is underway in Dr Congo, Kinshasa for the country’s first Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba
Patrice Lumumba’s tooth is the only remains brought to Dr Congo last week by Belgian government.
His gold-crowned tooth was returned after his brutal killing 61 years ago. Patrice Lumumba was assassinated, buried, exhumed and cut into pieces.
His dismembered body was then thrown in acid to hide any form of evidence of this heinous crime. Though he fought for the Congolese people against Colonial Belgium for independence, his own people sold him out, leading to his assassination.
Patrice Lumumba was born July 2, 1925 in a village of Onalua in the Congolese province of Kassi. He became a great political figure who help liberated the people from colonial rule and eventually becoming the country’s first Prime Minister.
Here are some of his quotes below
“without dignity there is no liberty, without justice there is no dignity and without independence, there are no free men amd women”
“The colonialists care nothing Africa for her own sake. They are attracted by African riches and their actions are guided by the desire to preserve their interests in Africa against the wishes of the African people” August, 1960
As today marks the independence day of DR Congo, we celebrate all fighting soldier including the country’s first Prime Minister.
