Economic Community of West African states, Ecowas has imposed new sanctions on Guinea and Mali. The group in a meeting held in Accra, Ghana on November 7 also reaffirms its demand for the release of former President Alpha Conde. Ecowas leaders call for the release of Alpha Conde
The group hardened its position against military ruled Guinea and Mali, imposing new sanctions on both African nations. Ecowas has also called both countries to honour their pledge to abide by the timetables stipulated for a return to democracy.
Mali military had already informed the Bloc they would not be able to hold elections in February for the country to return to democracy rule.

Ecowas has decided to freeze the financial assets of Mali’s new leaders and all their family members, and imposed travel ban on them. The Bloc also imposed mainly economic sanctions and suspended the Mali from the organization following August 18,2020 coup. Guinea has also been sususpended as a member of the bloc and has sent a mission to Conakry to meet with the new military government, Head by Colonel Doumbouya Mamady
