Government of Ghana is reviewing Free SHS programme to get parents pay some components

The Free SHS programme was introduced by President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government when they came to power
GES says the government is currently reviewing Free SHS programme which will make parents pay some components of NPP’s flagship policy
Director of Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah in an interview said it has become necessary for the current government to review some components.
Over 70% of Free SHS budget goes into feeding of these children across Ghana.
Finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta told Bernard Avle of Citinews that he does not think the programme is something anyone can compromise on.
“I don’t think that it’s something any of us can compromise on. Maybe there have to be a change in how we’re administering it. I can’t take my kid to Achimota and then live him or her and drive away and Ken Ofori-Atta will not pay anything whilst I can pay for ten people” he said in an interview before the 2020 general elections
That assessment is now a reality after the President ordered him to go the IMF for assistance.
