Idrissa Gueye refused to wear PSG kit with rainbow colours, symbol of LGBTQ+ community

The LGBTQ Sports Federation want Idrissa Gueye to pay a heavy price for being “homophobic”

Idrissa Gueye has caused controversy for his refusal to wear PSG kit with rainbow colours which represents LGBTQ+ community.

Idrissa Gueye who is Senegalese international could not play for his club because of the clubs new PSG kit. Though he travelled with Paris Saint-Germain to Stade de la Mosson where the team beat Montpellier 4-0.

PSG Head Coach Pochettino said the player “had to leave the team sheet for personal reasons. But he wasn’t Injured”. After the match on Saturday, several French media houses report the Senegalese international missed the game because of personal decision he made.

PSG had earlier tweeted they will wear the rainbow Jersey in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

All League 1 matches last week featured the LGBTQ symbol on their shirts and numbers. Though Idrissa Gueye’s is yet to comment on the matter, several French media outlets including RMC Sports say his absence was based on the decision PSG made in regards to the LGBTQ+ community.

Now, the LGBTQ Sports Federation want the Senegalese midfielder to be financially sanctioned for Homophobia. The federations President, Eric Arassus has also asked PSG to invite the player to answer questions on his absence.

His case has raised many concerns with fans of the club saying he did the right thing. But others also see his actions to he discriminatory and homophobic.
