Notorious Galamsey Perp Sends Message to Ghanaians and Prez Akufo-Addo
A Galamseyer between the ages of 17 years to 20 years has made a video recording of himself stating his resentment against the ban of galamsey. Lately, president Akufo-Addo has deployed 400+ military men to hunt down perpetrators of galamsey.
However, this young man in the video indicated that if president Akufo-Addo doesn’t provide or create jobs for them, they would continue with galamsey activities and they care less about the consequences, whether it will ruin water bodies or not.
Accordig to this young man, he earns much more money than anyone in this country and no one can stop them from engaging in galamsey activities.
During the fix the country hashtag, one of the major issues that gained much media attention was galamsey. Activities of galamsey have ruined most water bodies in Ghana. That being said, president Akufo-Addo authorised military men to burn down all excavators and other related galamsey machinery.
A section of Ghanaians have complained bitterly against the activities of these military men but president Akufo-Addo has declared that anybody who thinks that his effort against the galamsey fight is harsh, should seek for Court’s decision and has assured them a dead end.
Yes, the fight against galamsey is very a difficult one. Many people from the opposition have expressed their thoughts negatively on the fight against galamsey. They believe the president’s response is harsh.
Zenator Rawlings attributed the cause in the spike of robbery to the ban of galamsey. She is of the view that the ban of galamsey is the reason why robbery cases have gone up.
Sammy Gyamfi from the NDC reminded president Akufo-Addo on the necessary mechanisms to fight galamsey. He claims that the burning of galamsey excavators is unconstitutional. He is of the view that the president can employ the stipulated clauses in the Minerals Act.
