Okudzeto Ablakwa Not In Support Of First Lady’s Allowances Refund

Honorable Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency has revealed that the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo’s refund is a mere bait to gain favor in the eyes of the public.
He said, “I do not have any evidence to fall for that bait. What I also know is that payment had already been effected which actually will amount to double payment because they have already received allowances.”
His assertions came after the First Lady declared her intentions to refund all allowances received from January 2017 to date which amounted to GH¢899,000.
Earlier in a statement dated, 12/07/2021, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo said, “In view of this, the First Lady, in consultation with the President of the Republic, has decided to refund all monies paid to her as allowances from the date of the President’s assumption of office, i.e., from January 2017 to date, amounting to GH¢899,097.84.
Last week, news broke out that the First Lady and Second Lady will be receiving salaries officially despite allowances.
Many Ghanaians reacted positively and negatively to it and it is quite unfortunate that spouses of the President and his Vice have to face this brutal execution.
Even former President John Mahama, said that First Lady and Second Lady want to hold themselves us public officers which contradicts with Article 71 of the 1992 constitution.
However, the First Lady has noted that she does not want these issue to distract the good works of the President who is currently touring the Savanah and Upper West Region.
She added that her support to her husband will not cease. She will tirelessly seek the welfare of the good people of Ghana.
