Russian government restricts access to Google news

Russian government restricts access to Google news amidst Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Information reaching can confirm Russian government and regulator of its media space have restricted access to Google News service.

Russian government said the decision was necessary as it accuses Google News service for providing false news on Russia’s invading of Ukraine according to Russian news agencies

Russian General Prosecutor’s office demanded that, the regulator restricts the Google News Service until further notice.

The statement said Google News service “provided access to numerous publications and materials that contain false information about the cause of the special military operation on Ukrainian territory”

Russian government blocked several media houses which restricts them from reporting on the invasion of Ukraine. Google weeks ago blocked some Russian state media outlets on its YouTube platform.

Reports from major news platforms say Ukrainian forces are regaining grounds after fighting for a month. Today, March 24, 2022 marks a month of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
