Saif Al-Islam has been hiding for sometime after his father was killed in 2011. He has since seek asylum for years. Saif said he’s running to restore unity among the people of Libya after years of conflict following his dad’s demise.
Other candidates in the race include Khalifa Hafter who happens to be a war lord, Parliament Speaker, Aguila saleh and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.
Elections are said to he held in December 24. On Friday, a conference was held in Paris and it was agreed there will be sanctions to those who will disrupt the voting proceedings come December 24.
He was sentenced to death for war crimes after he was tried in 2015 by a Tripoli Court. He was accused for killing protesters during the uprising that led to his father assassination. He is also on the wanted list of the International Criminal Court, ICC for alleged crimes against humanity.
