South Africa government welcomes Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov to the country (Video)

South African historians say Russia played a significant role in its fight against aparthied decades ago, reason for their close ties
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov is currently in South Africa. Mr Lavrov was welcomed by South African government officials into the country hours ago. Russian Federation is in quest to build a stronger relationship with African States. Last year, he visited Egypt, Ethiopia and Uganda.

Many African countries if not all have not come out to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including South Africa. Last year, leader of emerging South African political party Economic Freedom Fighters said their party “are with Russia ” and that they “make no apology about” their “association with Russians”. There have also been a group of Africans who were, and are still ready to fight for Russia according to reports.

The relationship between Russia and South Africa have long grown to include economic ties which involves the formation of the Brics bloc of five countries namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Russia invading Ukraine will be a year next month 24th and nine of those Brics have been able to condemn its actions.
