El Salvador has become the first country to accept bitcoin as a legal tender. A video shared by one twitter user, Mario Aguiluz confirmed that. Citizens and many people living in El Salvador expressed their dissatisfaction as many people are not conversant with cryptocurrencies eg bitcoin etc.

Mario tweeted that he had just used bitcoin to buy coffee, condemning naysayers.

“This is to all the critics who said bitcoin would never be used to buy coffee. Just payed for mine at Starbucks in El Salvador” Mario tweeted.

El Salvador uses United States Dollar as its currency. According to BBC, the country will now add cryptocurrencies to its legal tender as a substitute.

People have taken to the streets to protest this new law as they consider it as a big setback for the economy.
