President Zelensky has today signed an official Ukrainian application to join the European Union. This followed Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine.

President Zelensky tweeted yesterday of the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU as soon as possible. According to him, he had a phone call with the president of European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen where they “talked about concrete decisions on strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, macro financial assistance and Ukraine’s membership in the EU” he said.
He officially filed for application today and asked that the Ukraine’s membership in the European Union will go through a special proceduce so that its sovereignty will be protected.

Prime Minister of Ukraine tweeted to confirm.
“President Zelensky signed EU application membership for Ukraine. This is the choice of Ukraine and Ukrainian people. We more than deserve it” PM Danys Shmyhal said.
